Historical Background:  
Documents from the turn of the century show this house, which was built in 1870, as part of the Springer Estate. In 1922 it became the property of Ira R. Springer and his wife, Rachel Fielding Hutchinson Springer. Rachel, a playwright and local theater director, was the daughter of Charles Henry Hutchinson, author of Chronicles of Middletown, and a direct descendant of George Fisher, Middletown’s founder.
